In 2024, almost 300 million people worldwide will require humanitarian help as a result of conflicts, climate emergencies, and other disasters (UN OCHA). Humanitarian workers provide aid in various situations, often facing similar challenges as their clients. Local and national staff are at the core of these efforts. Therefore, we are calling for the protection, safety, and dignity of individuals in crisis, as well as the persons who serve them.
Humanitarian values guide our work, focusing on humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence. A UN report shows increased attacks on humanitarian workers during conflicts, highlighting the risk they pose and emphasizing the importance of never targeting them.
We take this opportunity to appreciate and honor relief workers for their efforts to save lives and maintain dignity and to emphasize that humanitarians should never be targeted.
